Non-Stop Errands, Damage Witnesses and A Birthday Celebration.

Our Location today is McGregor, Ontario, Canada. 

Even though Kathy has been having issues with her CPAP mask causing her leakage problems the last couple of nights we still managed to sleep fairly soundly. We were even having breakfast before 8:00 this morning. We did take the time to do our morning reading before we headed out. Just in answer to a question asked in the comments it was Homemade Corned-Beef Sandwiches that we made ourselves, not the Corned-Beef itself. Kathy does have a recipe to make Corned-Beef but says she hasn’t made it in years and the cost of all the ingredients makes it too expensive to produce it on a small scale. 

Even though it is easier to get around town with the car as well as the better fuel mileage after having had so many issues with the truck lately Kathy insists that we use the truck to run the majority of our errands until we leave for the Southwest this fall. By 9:30 we were on our way out of the park first stopping to mail a letter by the park entrance before hitting the road.

We arrived at Leisure Trailer in Lakeshore just before 10:00 to pick up the additional shelves we ordered for our NORCOLD twelve cubic foot refrigerator/freezer. While there we spoke to J. T. about the few issues we’ve been having with our New Home. He made note of most issues but needed a photo of the one so we set up an E-mail exchange so once I take the picture I’ll simply E-mail it back to him so he’ll get the replacement part. We also took the time to purchase a few things that were in stock but had to order a few more. As we were about to leave Kathy turned to see the Congratulation sign to a family for the purchase of their 2011 Avalanche 340TG. Our Old Home now has a new family to care for it. It was already sold last Wednesday the day after we left the dealership with our New Home. It was Robert the same salesman that sold us our trailer that sold “Ava” and the selling point was not only that it is a bunk but all the improvements we had made to it.

Our next stop was Guardian Storage to check our mail and to get Kathy’s spare CPAP masks. If you remember yesterday our area was hit with a tornado that first hit Victory Street in LaSalle. It dropped from the sky right behind where Wendy lives. She manages the storage yard and said she couldn’t move as it approached yet it seemed like it was all in slow motion. It suddenly veered without harming her or damaging her property only to destroy and damage homes for the next three blocks on the street. The next house that was left undamaged belonged to her son. The storage units were not damaged either.

Driving up Rhodes Drive we didn’t see any signs of last night’s tornado until we got to Central Avenue where we saw twisted highway guardrails hanging from the electrical wires like ornaments on a Christmas Tree. On the other side of the Expressway patches of shingles were missing from one building covered with tarps while the Solar Panels mounted on the Bus Company lay in a twisted mass on the roof. 

It was past 12:00 and breakfast was long gone so we stopped at the Back Road Café for lunch. We have eaten here many times and were not disappointed today. The food is tasty, plentiful, reasonably priced and it was being served to us in less than ten minutes from the time we ordered it. 

We stopped at Windsor Gas and Diesel around 12:30 and Jim was going to have Brian work on the truck right away. Seeing that they had enough work to do plus we had plenty of stops to make and the truck was working as long as we didn’t use the remote start so we told him we’d see him after Labour Day and to enjoy his week off. 

Still looking for that perfect toilet seat we drove to Veteran Plumbing on Dougal Avenue. Imagine how we felt to see the signs that they are Going Out of Business. It has been family operated in Windsor for nearly a century but they couldn’t keep up with the big box stores. We stopped at the west-side Walmart where we picked up a few cleaning supplies and the only throw blanket they had to protect the back of our recliners. 

With over an hour before Kathy’s doctor’s appointment we stopped at Home Depot again to see if they could order the toilet seat for us. We got a run around from one associate to another. Out of frustration we left the store and just made it on time for Kathy’s appointment. Her doctor E-mailed a different prescription to our pharmacy and we were back at Home Depot in less than a half hour. This time it seemed everyone was more than willing to help but the product we are looking for is sold by their Online Sales Only. If we had only known before. 

We made a quick stop at Value Village on Walker Road where we completed our Halloween costumes. Walking next door to Canadian Tire Kathy could only find two of the plastic baskets needed to help organize the pantry cabinets. 

We were home before 4:00 so after emptying our purchases from the truck we set about having a salad for supper because we knew we’d be eating later. 

We stopped in at Sun Parlour Trailer on our way to Amherstburg. Rob was busy with a customer so his wife Cathy took our order for a new Oxygenic Shower Head. The one in our trailer has little pressure and no shut-off except at the valves. It could be there tomorrow.  

We couldn’t stay long because we had to get to Pharma-Care to pick up Kathy’s prescription. When I went in to get it Steve the Pharmacist told me it wasn’t covered by our plan. He also told me the price and showed me the same pill sold over the counter that ended up costing ten dollars cheaper. 

We then stopped at the Amherstburg Walmart to buy another throw blanket to match the one purchased earlier in the day. Across the street at Canadian Tire she was able to get a couple more of the baskets like she had purchased in Windsor. 

We finally made it to our son Kevin and daughter-in-law Melissa’s for our weekly visit and to celebrate his birthday. Of course Melissa had plenty of see food to munch on. (Good thing we only had salad for supper.) There was a lot to talk about but then the best part of all was the birthday cake that Kevin baked and decorated himself. He did a great job and gets an A+ from his two tutors.
