A Rob Day.

Our Location today is McGregor, Ontario, Canada.

I don’t know what the problem was last night but I was nearly falling asleep at the keyboard until I posted the blog then and only then did I mysteriously become fully awake. Figuring that staying awake until the tiredness returned might actually help me sleep was good and I finally lay down to sleep shortly after 1:00. The problem was when I started staring at the ceiling and my mind was racing around 4:00 I finally had to get back up an hour later. Thinking that going back to the computer was the answer to my problem was soon dashed. When my machine turned on it immediately went into an update mode that kept periodically restarting and not letting me in. I finally went back to bed when it had only reached three percent where I still lay awake until nearly 6:30. Even with that little bit of sleep I was awake and ready to start the day two hours later.
With less than 87 days before we head south this fall Kathy and I discussed what we needed to do while having breakfast. We have dealt with Rob at Sun Parlour Trailers for a number of years and he even went above and beyond the call in 2004 when fire destroyed our home. He came to our home, picked up our trailer and stored it for free until we could safely bring it back home. When the economy bottomed out in 2008 they almost lost the business but held on and are still slowly recovering. We had hoped he would be able to find a different trailer to suit our needs but unfortunately that hasn’t happened yet and we are running out of time.
We stopped in at Sun Parlour Trailer in Amherstburg this morning and spoke with Rob. He understood our delima but figures even if he doesn’t sell us the trailer we’ll still be back for service and parts and he is right we will. With his blessings we were on our way to check out a couple of trailers that Kathy had found online.

We drove out to Harrow where we went to Renaud Ford and RV. After briefly looking around their yard and not seeing what we were looking for we spoke with the receptionist who called a salesman to help us out. Just like when we first wanted to see an Avalanche 340TG the trailers Kathy had found online had either been sold already or were there on consignment. The salesman whose name was also Rob took us through other trailers but again they just weren’t what we were looking for. He’s expecting a couple of trailers as trade ins this coming week so we might be back.
Not realizing what the time was Kathy was beginning to have the shakes since we’d done a lot of walking and it was already past 1:30. Since we hadn’t had lunch Kathy’s blood sugar was dropping so as we were driving back through Harrow we saw a little Mom and Pop type restaurant called Danielle’s Soft Ice Cream and More. We cherished the cold drinks that helped to quench our thirst and within ten minutes our food arrived piping hot. Our BLTs were loaded with bacon and the hand-cut fries were tastier than most fast-food places. By the time we finished our meals our bodies were still not steady so we ordered each a medium soft chocolate ice cream cone to cool down. We should have ordered a small they were that large and by the time we finished those we were stuffed.
Ordering the ice cream cones and paying the bill.

Kathy still had a couple more trailers on her list so we headed out to Leisure Trailers in Lakeshore. It was 3:00 when we arrived and the first salesman to ask if he could help us was of course named Rob. The trailers on Kathy’s list were all consignments but after hearing what we were looking for he made a suggestion. They have a brand new 2014 RL but because of its age it is being sold as used. It was beautiful inside and out with ample storage. It’s a little pricier than we planned on but we are still looking. Rob did send us away with plenty of reading materials full of specifications in case we change our minds.
They closed at 4:00 so we thought we’d stop for a short visit at our daughter Karen’s home in Tecumseh but there wasn’t a vehicle in the driveway so we continued driving to the Home Hardware Building Center to pick up additional cleaning material.
Having eaten so well for lunch we only shared a bagel around 8:00 this evening. New trailer or not we have to start getting ready for going south and we have a soccer game to attend tomorrow. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

It’s about time.

  1. What did I miss?? How come you are changing trailers??

  2. Buying a newer trailer to hit the road for the winter is not something we would do, our coach is 17 years old and trust it to go anywhere, not so a newer one without problems. At least we know what we have here.
