There Are Health Benefits To Fulltiming and Needing A Quick Recalibration.

Our Location today is McGregor, Ontario, Canada.

Last night both Kathy and I suffered from what we’ll refer to as Broken Sleep Syndrome. We already know the cause of it as well, we had set the alarm clock so we wouldn’t sleep in. Just knowing that in the back of our minds we continually woke throughout the entire night.

When the alarm finally went off at 7:45 we simply got dressed and headed out the door by 8:10 without having any breakfast. Our destination was Kathy’s family doctor in Windsor. As soon as the doors were unlocked Kathy was the first patient to sign in at 8:50 and was the first called in at 9:03.

Over the last few years that we had been going south for the winter months Dr. Sherman had noticed a slight improvement in Kathy’s health. Today after checking Kathy’s vital signs she was amazed at what she was seeing so she asked Kathy what she was doing. Kathy told her about our going Fulltime which has reduced her stress, allowing her to occasionally exercise and making her more relaxed. Her doctor was so impressed she said she didn’t need any bloodwork today as well to keep up what we are doing and to enjoy life. I think more doctors should be telling their patients the same thing.
Kathy’s appointments and test normally take nearly an hour. Leaving there by 9:30 with other errands to run we first went to have breakfast at A&W. They have great breakfasts that are cooked fresh the way you like and brought to your table at a reasonable price. The headaches we were getting from being hungry quickly disappeared.
Our next stop was at Guardian Storage where the first thing we got was the mail and not just any mail but a letter from the Canadian Cancer Clinic saying Kathy’s recent tests her doctor had sent her for had come out negative. Good news twice in one day. We then went back to our Climate Controlled Storage Unit where we had a few things to get so that I can work on the car and to drop off the last of the Early Christmas gifts that Kathy had finished wrapping. By leaving them there it eliminates any accidental exposure to unexpected guests.
We then went to VitalAire to order more of the full face mask liners because of the allergy I have developed to the material the masks are made from. While there we also heard they now have longer hoses so the next time we get our supplies that’s what we’ll be getting. We also discussed how we’ll get our supplies before we head south for the winter.
Finally, for the moment that Kathy and I had been waiting for the last three weeks we headed over to Windsor Gas and Diesel to pick up the truck. After a brief talk with Jim we were soon on our way Home with Kathy following in the car.

The truck was running good and I glanced to make certain the proper lights on the dash were lit when suddenly the speedometer caught my eye. I was traveling at the same speed as traffic around me 60 Kmh. but the odometer was showing I was traveling more than double the speed. I found the nearest parking lot to pull into where I told Kathy we were going back and why. She couldn’t believe it.
This how fast the truck was going while standing still.
Years ago there used to be a cable from the transmission to the speedometer but not today. Today there is a sensor on the transmission that sends a signal to the dash where a tiny electric motor spins the speedometer. When we got back to Windsor Gas and Diesel I signaled Brad the mechanic who had reassembled the dash. Telling him to look at the speedometer while the truck was in the Park mode it was still reading 80 Kmh. while it was just sitting still idling. When he had reassembled the dash he had checked it with the meter but didn’t road test it. Hooking the truck up to the computer he had it recalibrated in five minutes. After a brief road-test we were finally heading Home.
Another thing the automakers of diesel engines have developed over the years is a D.P.F. (Diesel Particulate Filter) or a Catalytic type filter for diesels. I’d just turned back onto Walker Road when it activated on the truck. If you shut them down prematurely the filters become clogged. It was still going by the time we reached Home so we ended up in Essex before it shut down. Since it was then 1:00 in the afternoon we stopped at Tim Horton’s where we each had a Panini sandwich for lunch.

Since the Humidex was still 102 F (39 C) by the time we got Home I continued on my data entries while Kathy busied herself doing research on the computers. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

  1. Nice to read the goodness about Kath's doctor visit.
Wow...that sure is crazy to go 80mph and be sitting still. Yes, they got the problems fixed and you have your vehicle back.
