Special Celebration and Greening Our Site.

Our Location today is McGregor, Ontario, Canada.

It was a nice feeling when all the pictures I wanted to add to yesterday’s post went on without a hitch. When that happened I returned to Tuesday’s post and put in a couple more that wouldn’t load the first time. Sometimes a simple act that we perform on a sometimes daily basis can be extremely frustrating when it just doesn’t want to work.
Sleeping with all the windows ajar last night was a treat. There were no cold breezes even though the low made it down to 55 F (13 C). The only problem we had was the fresh air caused our bodies to be overly relaxed and not wanting to wake too early this morning. After having breakfast and doing what little reading there was it didn’t take long to start our day’s projects.

When we arrived on our site for the first time with the trailer in April we saw plenty of potential for our site. After seeing how the Parks lawn maintenance people cut the grass flush with the ground we decided it would be worth our while to do it ourselves. It started with our reseeding the spots of bare ground that once had grass attached. We then bought our own Black & Decker lawn Mower/Trimmer to cut the grass ourselves. Imagine our horror when we came home after a day of errands to find all our work undone when the grass was again cut to the ground. We then put ourselves on the No-Mow list and started over. When they arrived at our site yesterday we waved them off.
Spreading some topsoil.
This morning even though the grass was damp I retrimmed it at the lowest mower setting and we still had green grass on the ground. The next step was to Overseed the entire site with Sun and Shade grass seed to fill in the thin spots all by hand. Kathy wasn’t Impressed with the green dye that had rubbed onto my hand but I made certain there was no square inch of our lot left unseeded. When Kathy called me in for lunch it took some scrubbing but my hands finally returned to their tanned colour.
Mixed Berries and sauce on pancakes.
For lunch Kathy made a wonderful mixed berry sauce that she poured over some fresh pancakes. They were delicious and filled us just enough.

Returning to seeding the grass I started spreading five bags of black top soil we’d purchased. The first spots I filled were the low depressions that were cause by some unexplainable past practice. The rest of the soil was lightly spread over the entire freshly seeded grass which stops the birds from snacking on the seed. The final step was to generously water the entire site front and back. Now that there is mud on the seed it creates another deterrent for the birds.
Pigeons ignoring the tree ornaments.
After a much needed shower it wasn’t long before Kathy and I were out the door to go for a celebratory supper. It was fifteen years ago that Kathy and I got married. We both had tragic losses in our former lives that helped to make this a “Match made in Heaven” as we call it. We’ve also had some tests which have only made our love stronger. Those tests are another reason why we have chosen to live the Fulltime Lifestyle as long as our health will allow us. We went to the 19th Hole Restaurant where we enjoyed a wonderful fish and chip dinner. Even though this was a special day for us we always remember how special we are to one another and never take life for granted.
Once the 6 o’clock News was over and I’d watered the grass again we sat outside enjoying the comfortable temperature and watching trailer after trailer pulling in for the long weekend. Tomorrow will be Canada Day and Monday the 4th of July better known as Independence Day in the United States. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!
