Cool Day of Fun and Accomplishments.

Our Location today is Crystal River, Florida.

Last night we went to bed nice and cozy under warm covers and the furnace running to keep us toasty warm from the freezing temperatures we were expecting to get. This morning when we got up at 7:30 for breakfast there was a chill inside the trailer that even the cube heater wasn’t taking the bite out of. Looking out the rear window of the trailer the thermometer indicated a cold 25 F (-4 C). As we were having breakfast we noted the furnace wasn’t coming on.

A quick check of the stove top indicated a low to dying propane supply. Getting dressed with a warm coat on top I switched the propane tanks to be greeted by the sound of the running furnace on my return inside. The furnace ran for nearly two hours before I shut it down and still the inside of the trailer felt comfortable but never felt warm as we sat in the back room doing our morning computer reading. When we had finished with that we reorganized the pantry shelves. Since leaving home back in December every time we went to the grocery store we just put things we’d purchased where-ever there was space on the shelves which is unlike Kathy. Today likes were put with likes and now Kathy can tell me what shelf things are on without having to look twice.

I made a couple of phone calls one to the Red Cross wanting to know where their nearest donor clinic was. Imagine my surprise when I was told they don’t control blood donations in Florida it is state run. When I called the state blood donor clinic and found out they only have mobile donor units in this area and the closest one is twenty miles away on Saturday. My last call was to Nature Coast RV asking about the toilet. All the service people were out and the receptionist took my number so they’d call us when they returned.

At 11:30 Kathy started making lunch. We shared a sandwich but each had a bowl of Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup thus finishing the last of it. Even though the temperature was at 50 F (10 C) with the North wind it felt much colder but we were getting cabin fever so we decide to go see if we could see the Manatee at Three Sisters Spring.

When we got there roads were blocked off so we kept driving until we came to the Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge. They informed us that public access to viewing the Manatees was being restricted for the safety of the Manatee. Last year in the Crystal River area approximately 800 Manatee died from unknown causes. So far 15 more have been lost and the suspect is the cold temperatures. An Aerial count as of this morning showed over 650 Manatee in the Three Sisters Refuge alone and many more in the gulf that can’t get to the warmth of the springs. We will try again later.

We decided to go check out the local mall but the phone rang. It was Nature Coast RV telling us the toilet was now fixed and working the way it should. Since we were driving in that direction it only took ten minutes to get there. The owner himself greeted us apologizing for the delay. As soon as his techs had gotten back from the service call he rolled up his own sleeves along with the techs they used my suggestion and they had it working the way it should have the first time because I tested it. As the tech explained he had worked on many RV toilets but not one by Dometic. Since I authorized the replacement of the seal that was all I was charged for. The owner said he’d chock up the labor as a training expense.

Leaving there Kathy and I finally made it to the Crystal River Mall. From the empty store fronts you can see they haven’t recovered from the drop in the economy. Walking by the movie theater we recognized a Disney movie we had planned on seeing before we left home but didn’t. So first thing we did was share a Subway sandwich and soft drink to avoid the high cost of food at the theater Snack Bar.

The movie Frozen was entertaining as all Disney movies are with a good theme to it and wonderful song and music arrangement. It also seemed fitting that the animated characters were as cold as we are here in Florida.

Where's that warm Florida Weather? Look at the continuing lows!

Back home the wind chill has temps around -31 F (-35 C) so the fact we are going down to 30 F (-1 C) here won’t garner much sympathy from our kids. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!
