Missed Meetings and Crazy GPS

Our Location Today is Rapid City, South Dakota, U.S.A.

We were surprised Saturday night that there was a constant flow of RVs coming off the road for the night in Mitchell, South Dakota. After enjoying our first campfire of the trip last night we all slept so soundly we never heard the rain that fell throughout the night.
With breakfast finished this morning we were also surprised to see the park was almost empty. It did not take too long to close up camp and put us back on the road to our adventure.
The cloud looks like the Hands of God next to the road.
The temperature was perfect for travelling and being that it was Sunday the traffic was light. The roads continued to keep us alert with their washboard rythme. By noon we had covered half the distance that was planned for the day so we took our time enjoying a light lunch at one of very few truck stops along the way.
Once we had been back on the road for almost an hour we left the highway to explore the town of Walldrug South Dakota (The Wall). Kathy and I have travelled past this location on a past trip and had never had the time to stop in. Well today it looked like an RV convention had arrived in town. The place was packed with shoulder to shoulder people. Main Street was packed with motorcycles and cars but all the surrounding parking lots and sideroads we filled with every make and size of RV imaginable.
Even though we didn't have enough time to visit all the shops and restaurants we had an enjoyable time. Bill and Vera were amazed at what was being sold. Once our legs started bothering us we knew it was time to head back to the truck.
Another hour down the road was time to top-off our fuel tank for tomorrows drive and supper at the Flying J just outside of Rapid City. We had a good but light supper and totally forgot to take pictures.
Our campground was just down the road from the Flying J but we didn't know that. What happened was our GPS seems to sense that and added a trip down another road adding ten miles to our trip. Once we realized we were not on the highway we were supposed to be we backtracked until we found the highway and then visually found the campground.

We had to unhitch from the trailer as the sites are not long enough to stay connected. Once the trailer was connected and leveled it was time to relax for the night. Since we left home on July 3rd I have only had time to post our blog but not do any reading. So tonight I was scan over some and reading others. In other words playing catchup. Eventually I will get caught up on all the blogs on our sidebar.

Kathy and I were shocked that we have just missed meeting up with a few fellow RV bloggers. By not reading for those few days we didn't know how close to us they were and so did not get a chance to communicate and meet. This afternoon while we were in the town of Wall Drug so was Shoeless Joe from Travelin' With John and we missed an opportunity to sit down for a coffee and a chat.

While we were reading Jim and Dee's blog TUMBLEWEED we realized that they just left the campground down the road from where we are staying here in Rapid City. They pulled out Sunday morning and we arrived last night.

As they say RVers's plans are written in Jello and somewhere down the road we'll be able to meet. Be Safe and Enjoy!

It's about time.

  1. We were like ships passing in the night, so close, yet so far. Next time I hope.

  2. Wow you sure are doing a lot of travelling. We like to drive for a day or two then stay in a spot for 3 to 7 days then move on for a couple hours. And stop again. Will be nice when you can stop and relax for a while. Enjoy the journey and travel safe.
